When Nick and Julia travelled to the Philippines for six weeks, they entrusted me with their home in Spain, their cat Dorito and their dog Coco.
Alongside caring for their pets, I maintained their swimming pool, which was supplied by water from a well on their land. Recent flooding meant I also needed to be ready to erect flood barriers to protect the house if conditions worsened. During their trip, I dealt with power outages and helped two guests staying in a separate villa on the farmstead.
An unexpected challenge arose before their holiday had properly begun. After leaving for the airport, Nick and Julia realised they had forgotten important travel documents and could no longer return to collect them. With their permission, I retrieved the documents from their safe and arranged international recorded delivery through the Spanish postal service the following day. Despite the language barrier, I successfully organised their dispatch. The documents reached Nick and Julia, allowing them to continue their holiday.
Throughout the stay, my priorities were to keep their pets comfortable, care for their property and calmly resolve problems as they arose. I also drew a picture of Dorito as a surprise for their return, a personal reminder of the six weeks we had spent together.
